Yesterday was one of the funnest days of the semester. And the best part was, I didn't do a lick of homework. Thank goodness I got ahead last week!
It all started at 7:50 a.m. when Cami Jackson woke me up. We had been planning to leave for the temple at this time and my alarm hadn't gone off. I flew out of bed. We went to the temple and it was wonderful. We had to wait a while so I just read my scriptures. I finished Alma and finished the Doctrine and Covenants. I love section 138. I "discovered" it last spring when I read it for my family history class. In this vision that President Joseph F. Smith had, he saw Christ appear to the dead after he was crucified. If you want a really interesting read to go along with this section, check out "I Saw the Hosts of the Dead" by George S. Tate at this link. This article gives great insight to the historical background.
I love the temple. It brings me so much peace and makes me happy. I love being there with my friends and family.
After we got home, I rushed over to the Snow building for Jessica's piano recital. She's been in a piano class this semester so I went to hear her play. She did a great job.
While I was at the recital, Allison invited me to go rock climbing with her and Porter. I had not been rock climbing outdoors before, so I was a little nervous, but how could I pass that up?! Jes got invited too so we ran home, got ready to go and were out the door by noon.
We went up to the mountains past Big Jud's. It was a beautiful area and the weather was perfect. For each route, Porter would lead climb up to the top to set up our rope. We did three climbs each. I made it to the top of two. It was a blast. It is so similar yet so different climbing outside. I loved being out in the sun. And I felt so at one with nature. And I felt like a total granola Boulderite. I brought raisins which really added to the earthy atmosphere. It was awesome. We were gone all afternoon. We went back to Allison's house for milkshakes and we watched the movies we took. Our favorite was when Porter fell and nearly fell on top of Allison pulling off a chunk of rock with him. Good times.
I got home around six and then headed to the grocery store with my roommates. Our last trip of the semester.
Then we decided to hike up R mountain to watch the sunset. It was beautiful. I am glad we went.
When we got home, I was starving. Cami and I ate our watermelon and then we whipped out our left-over french fries from Big Jud's Friday night. We downed those - of course, with the most delicious condiment - fry sauce.
Now its 12:05 p.m. Sunday. I can't believe its our second to last Sunday of the semester. Three weeks from now I'll be sitting in the good old Broomfield 1st ward. To be honest, I cannot wait! Today should be a great day though!
We're having Jenna's homemade Cafe Rio dinner after church complete with the sweet pork, cilantro rice and cilantro dressing. (I LOVE cilantro - everything about it, the taste, the smell, its all so good!). It is going to be the best dinner. Later tonight we have a ward fireside.
Its really weird to think the semester is almost over. It's been a good one, definitely with trials and rough patches, but I've learned a lot. I'm not sure exactly what fall semester brings and to be honest, I'm really scared. But it'll work out!
Kaley gave me this quote from Taylor Swift a couple weeks ago. I really like it.
"I think being fearless is having a lot of fears but jumping anyways."
I feel like that's me lately. Whether its letting go of the rock wall or starting over in the fall, I'm taking some leaps of faith. That's the key though - faith.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
